I was able to visit the River last night, so here’s another post sharing what I learned and wanted to share from The River.
Last night’s lesson was on Breakthrough. We are the vessel of the Holy Spirit and He is the Living Water welling up inside those who believe in Him and submit to His guidance. Throughout the Bible, we see wells being used for multiple different encounters. There are those of Grace (Hagar, Genesis 16:13-14), worship (Isaac, Genesis 26:25), and of prophetic meaning (Jacob, Genesis 46:1-2). In the first, Hagar was seen by the Lord in her time of trouble. In the second, Isaac built one as a memorial of worship to the Lord where He had spoken to him. In the prophetic usage, we see Jacob positioning himself in a place to hear from God while also posturing his heart to listen. Another characteristic often seen with wells is that they are wells of salvation.
Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Isaiah 12:3
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
John 4:14
Jesus is the Living Water. By Him, all people are saved from Hell. In the tale of the Samaritan woman (John 4:14), the whole city was changed because of her divine appointment (John 4:4) with Jesus. Out of the Holy Spirit flows a River beyond compare and breaks down the dams of ignorance and pride.
Wells are also generational. In the tale of the Samaritan woman and the story of Isaac, the wells were from their fathers and, as in Isaac’s case, were plugged up (Genesis 26:18). The church of America has long since had the wells of the Holy Spirit clogged up. Satan has been moving forward and gaining ground under our sleepy eyes. The wells must be retapped and healed. In the account of 2 Kings 2:19-22 and Exodus 15:23-25, the waters were bitter and unsafe to drink. The wells the church has been drawing from are polluted and corrupted with false doctrines. God is calling us to purge and transform our minds from these false doctrines before our ears start itching and we fall away (2 Timothy 4:3, Luke 8:13). Let me share a verse that applies, I believe, to the Bride in America.
They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Luke 8:13
Our society is so concerned about numbers and has forgotten the importance of quality. We need to re-dig the walls of our forefathers and those who have founded this country on His Word and His Truth. Rekindle the fires and spread the word of repentance. We must build ourselves on the Chief Cornerstone, the Rock. But it doesn’t stop there, we are called to go deeper! We are called to drill beneath and dig deep into the Rock. We are not to be placed on the surface of the Rock but found in the Rock. We must dig deep into the aquifers of the Holy Spirit and grow once more. We cannot be His Bride as He has called us to be if we are not sourcing from Him. We cannot draw our sustenance from the polluted waters of this world.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
John 7:38
We are to source from the Holy Spirit in us. We are not to grieve the Holy Spirit by ignoring Him and His promptings.
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.
Jeremiah 17:13
It is the Lord who is our Water of Life. Without Him, we thirst forever. Nonetheless, to re-dig the wells, we must commit to working at it. A well doesn’t just open up and poof you’ve got water. You must dig and labor for it. Here is the good news though: Jesus is the only One who can bring us Living Water. All we are to do is step out in faith and commit. All He commands us to do is seek and search diligently.
For by grace…Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
We have to check our hearts and seek Him whole-heartedly.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23
For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Luke 6:43-45
Return to Him and repent of our idols. We have replaced the Well of Living Water with the polluted waters of this world. Be transformed and may your mind be renewed. Get on your knees and intercede for our country and the lost. Through prayer, we storm the gates of Hell. Unearth and unclog the wells of our past that our forefathers have dug for us. The apostasy has started and is getting worse. Open your eyes. May the willful ignorance stop with this generation and those who listen to the watchman on the walls. Let the awakening start now, on our knees. Let us get as close to the ground as we can as we seek Him and dig deeper. Will you join me?
I enjoyed your post. There were many good points. For me the conviction came when you said “we must commit to working on it….” This statement is very true, many including myself forget to keep working on digging the well on a daily basis. Whether this digging is being in God’s Word or in prayer talking to our Saviour, Master, Lord, Friend, etc. For some reason it is easier for me to be in God’s Word and see where I need to dig deeper but praying and talking to God in a silent still manner is the most difficult for me. Not because I don’t want to pour my heart out, but because the idea of being still and listening takes humility. Thank you!
I loved the part about repenting because without repenting of our sins there is no salvation in Christ Jesus. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 3:38
